Any true Hip Hop head would know exactly how much of an impact the legendary Newark, New Jersey stalwart known was Reggie Noble aka Redman made on 90's Hip Hop from his dope Kool and The Gang sample laden remix of EPMD's "I'm Mad" (1991) to his legendary verses album on "Brothers On My Jock" and "Hardcore" on EPMD's third album Business As Usual and he is still at it and set to drop Muddy Waters Too later in 2018...Red is one of the greatest to ever wreck a mic device, that is facts but this 26 track deep compilation is to reflect on his stature behind the boards as a Producer (often with Rockwilder) or Co-Producer and contains Non LP cuts, Remixes and other joints, this was requested by Chris Moss of Divided Souls fame so I thought it was only right to share it on J.M.S as well....hope you enjoy it.

The JMS Joint of the Week: Digable Planets - "Where I'm From (Aural G. Ride 12") (1993)

One of the greatest things about Hip Hop music back in the 90's was the sheer diversity in it and NYC's Digable Planets were one trio that held the Jazz/Rap crown proudly, I was listening to their debut album tonight and was transported back to a greater time before the Internet and cellphones, before trash Soundcloud "Rappers" before the industry well and truly massacred and butchered Hip Hop and sold it back to the masses as pieces of ignorance, vanity, superficiality and polluted it with brain-dead, fake and plastic lames riding a wave but the saddest past is that these idiots just cannot see that they are absolute slaves and once their wave is done, they are done! 

Ahem back to the topic haha...DP were so smooth that it should have been a crime, Ladybug Mecca, Doodlebug and Butterfly were clearly students of not just Jazz but Funk and Soul and incorporated this into their music effortlessly with rhymes brimming with positive antidotes and superb production, they still influence Hip Hop and I recently heard a track that was pretty much just "The Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" chopped up.

The remix to "Where I'm From" was simplistic but so dope, a lone clarinet sample drifting in and out over a deep bass and past clipped "Funky Drummer" drums and the video for the original version was just as ill, watching the Digables rhyme while snow fell on them was a sight to behold.



They are still touring and had another reunion in 2016.

2017 - JMS Presents - EPMD -The Remix Files (Redux)

In celebration of the highly influential Long Island legends Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith's incredible 30 years plus deep in the Rap game and 10 years of the J.M.S. blog (formerly Cold Rock Da Spot), I have re-done a long dead compilation from 2007 and I am giving you pretty much a definitive EPMD compilation of remixes (official and unofficial), Non LP cuts and B-Sides that is 30 tracks deep :)

I really don't need to go into depth about EPMD aka "The Rap American Dream Team" in this post because it has already been written and well documented on this blog that I would definitely consider myself a Super Fan and they are still to me the greatest 2 Man MC duo in Hip Hop history, it's still hard to believe that this 12" happened over 30 years ago and they were known as EPEE MD.

Both E & P are still at it and they are scheduled to release another EPMD album Big Business in 2018.

So a massive salute and thank you to the legendary Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith, Hip Hop, not just for the music but the entire culture would just not be the same without you.

Joint of The Week: Nao - "DYWM (Gellaitry Remix)"

I just cannot stop listening to this!, this has to be Sam's greatest remix in his career so far and Nao and Sam Gellaitry really need to work on a full EP or LP.

This is Soul/R&B that speaks to the heart, soul and mind...I am in awe of this combination.

The Bronx, New York legend, born Joseph Kirkland is one of Hip Hop's greatest ever producers (and is one of my all time favourite producers) first starting out carrying records for DJ Jazzy Jay and then as a DJ himself way back in 1979, Diamond D got into production and laced records for the Ghetto Girlz and then fellow D.I.T.C. members Lord Finesse and Showbiz and AG's first albums,Funky Technician (1990) and Runaway Slave (1992) and Diamond's classic debut album, Stunt, Blunts and Hip Hop dropped in 1992.



After that album dropped, Diamond D was in big demand and produced, appeared with and/or remixed for...

Diamond D's beats often consisted of ill jazz horns, hard hitting drums,thick basslines, flutes, pianos and strings all sampled from classic jazz,rock, soul and funk etc albums, Diamond D is also a founding member of the infamous DITC (Diggin In The Crates) crew (Showbiz and AG, Lord Finesse, Diamond D, Big L (RIP),O.C., Fat Joe, Milano and Buckwild) who released their first album in 2000 and have an upcoming album titled The Movement, DITC records released the album Unreleased Production 1994, which featured unreleased material from Fat Joe, Amed, Page,Lord Finesse, Deshawn and others, Diamond recently released The Huge Hefner Chronicles album, which sadly was pretty bland, but I guess he just wants a piece of the pie.

The never before released Ultimate Force (Diamond D & Master Rob)-I'm Not Playing album finally saw the light of day, when it was released last year (2007) and showed that Diamond D was well head of his time when it came to the beats and production, the album was originally supposed to be released in 1990, but stayed in the vaults until Jazzy Jay got it out and re-mastered it.

CRDS Presents The Pete Rock Remix Files Volume 1

What's good all...

Here is a Pete Rock remix compilation I did a while ago and I thought it might be appreciated here, you probably already have these remixes, but if not...I know you will enjoy them.

I guess that most of us aren't that happy with Pete's latest album "NY's Finest", it's just lacking that raw soul and groove that Pete used to have and some of his guests were boring or wack (Jim Jones!!!?...why???, that dude is mad terrible and the beat is one of the best on the album, I could hear Bumpy Knux on that joint easily),"Questions" is fat, and where the hell has Royal Flush been? "I took some time off"?...haha that's the understated rhyme of the year, I dig a lot of the production especially "Comprehend" (with the ill 10cc sample), "Best Believe" with Redman tearing shit up is great as well...but I do prefer Pete's older style and feel that it, if it wasn't broke, why the need to fix it?.

Speaking of fixing, myself, Magnifik and Illest 22 are hoping like hell that maybe one day, Pete will release all of those unreleased remixes (Cormega, Nas, M.O.P, Redman etc) he premiered on the radio...it's an injustice that none of them have seen a proper release and we have to suffice with radio rips.
